内容記述 Universities have an obligation to live up to the expectations of the stakeholders—students and their families, community groups, industries, and governments to ensure that their graduates have the requisite skills to succeed in a rapidly transforming world influenced by globalization, interconnectivity, and advancement in artificial intelligence. This paper reports on the findings of a study that explored the possibility of using English as a Foreign Language (EFL) Course as a platform for teaching of future-oriented skills—21st Century Skills and Global Competence through an instructional approach which has gained currency in Europe called, Content and Language Integrated Instruction (CLIL). The paper begins with an overview of the investigation into the origin of CLIL focusing on the context in which it was developed, and examines the issues and problems surrounding its inception. Then this paper examines the essential concepts of CLIL, its framework, and instructional principles derived from the framework, and discusses CLIL’s potential to fulfil the goals of 21st Century skills and Global Competence. Last, the paper describes one EFL course in which CLIL was implemented. It is hoped that this paper will serve as an incentive for classroom practitioners to explore the use of CLIL in their classes and embed in their syllabus, approaches and practices that develop 21st Century Skills and Global Competence.
