In previous studies, the preferred music was investigated by asking the participants to choose their favorite songs from a music list prepared in advance. However, the current study investigated their favorite songs through open-ended questions. There were 487 participants （mean age = 73.29 years, SD = 5.44, age range = 60–98 years） who were asked to name the title of their favorite songs. We had a total of 1028 favorite songs, out of which top 30 songs were analyzed for their tempo and the period of listening. To compare the results of the older adults with the general audience, we analyzed the tempo of the top 30 songs of the Billboard Japan Hot 100. We found that the tempo of the preferred songs of the older adults （mean tempo = 81.88 bpm, SD = 13.31） were slower than that of the general audience （mean tempo = 106.17 bpm, SD = 28.26）.
