Thus, this study aims to explain the mediating effect of job stress and affective commitment in the relationship between transformational leadership and work engagement based on the job demands-resources model and the conservation of resources theory. A multilevel path analysis was conducted using a cross-sectional survey of 126 employees comprising 20 teams at a Japanese marketing company undergoing organizational change. The results show that affective commitment partially mediates between transformational leadership and work engagement and a full mediator between job stress and work engagement.
