This study also examined differences in the relationship by sex and whether they lived with their mother or not. We measured individuals’ relationships with their mothers using the Family Closeness Scale (Yamazaki, Sugimura, & Takeo, 2002), and the psychological distance from their mothers by using one item developed based on Yoshioka & Noguchi (2019), and helpseeking behavior by using the Scale of Help-Seeking Style (Nagai, 2013). Explanatory factor analysis was conducted on the Family Closeness Scale. The results showed that the psychological distance from one’s mother was closer when the relationship with one’s mother was intimate, and that the closer the psychological distance is from one’s mother, the greater excessive help-seeking style and less frequent were behaviors avoiding help-seeking.
